Sebastien Jean Jacques was a French sculptor and woodcarver who lived in the 18th century. He is best known for his work on the interiors of the Palace of Versailles, including the Hall of Mirrors and the Royal Chapel. Jacques’s work is characterized by its elegance, refinement, and attention to detail. He was a master of the Rococo style, and his work helped to define the look of 18th-century French art.
Jacques was born in Paris in 1713. He studied sculpture with his father, Jean-Baptiste Jacques, and later with the sculptor Edme Bouchardon. In 1734, Jacques won the Prix de Rome, which allowed him to study in Italy for three years. While in Italy, Jacques studied the works of the great Italian masters, such as Michelangelo and Bernini.
